Applications for disposal schemes are at an all time high due to a compliance initiative by the ERCB. Operators are using AppIntel and Proven to keep up-to-date on their disposal approvals terms.
Industry is seeking more disposal approvals than ever before. An astounding 40 applications per month are being received by the ERCB.
This heightened interest is for three reasons:
First, more water is being produced by the industry than ever before.
Second, new SAGD schemes require water disposal even with recent water recycling initiatives.
But even more important, the ERCB compliance effort is asking oil and gas operators to show that they are living by the restrictions in previously granted approvals. This is sparking approval transfers, disposal amendments, and even new disposal schemes.
Operators are using approval transfers to transfer old disposal approvals to the correct operators.
Industry is amending old disposal schemes to bring maximum wellhead injection pressure (MaxWHIP) approvals in line with current injection needs.
Engineers are also using this exercise to apply for more disposal schemes as they get more familiar with disposal regulations.
AppIntel software by Regaware allows operators to check out MaxWHIPs other companies are submitting to the regulator. Industry is also using it to find out what disposal conditions the ERCB is approving and which ones are being refused. This application intelligence reduces application approval time.
AppIntel is also helping operators keep up with the Joneses and make sure they get the maximum regulatory flexibility being offered by the ERCB. The ERCB never grants more than an operator requests. So knowing what the ERCB is granting others is helping companies maximize their approvals including MaxWHIPs.
Proven is also helping industry search for approval terms. We are using an up-to-date dataset of disposal and enhanced recovery approvals linked to wells and company names. It helps a company search for all their approvals and then find the approval documents and legislated restrictions.
