Where do you invest precious capital when faced with low commodity price? The cheapest reserves you can add are by flooding.

Flooding can add significant production and reserves. In a look-back on water floods initiation, Proven found that series of floods started a decade ago tripled production within a year and added over 300 MBO in reserves.

Even some low pressure pools responded well. Some of the pools flooded had a low pressure of near 2 MPa.

Just pumping produced water in the ground can stabilize pool pressure and keep oil rates from declining. However, over-injecting to increase pool pressure to original bubble point pressure can significantly increase production rates.

Tuning water floods can also improve production significantly. In a small flood Proven reviewed, we found a new infill well location that produced clean oil when all the rest of the tired wells had a water cut of 70%.

Changing the injection pattern can also usually produce quick hits for production and recovery. If you change the sweep pattern, you’ll likely increase recovery.

Proven’s Optiflood process has improved recovery and sweep as well as suggesting infill well opportunities to add oil production.
