Horizontal Well Simulation

As oil prices hit the sky, more and more companies want to maximize oil recovery from their mature pools with horizontal wells. Horizontal wells can recover oil and gas from pools that were previously unrecoverable. Some operators believe that every legacy field can be redeveloped with horizontal wells.

But sometimes horizontal wells are drilling in the wrong location or without regard to reservoir properties and conditions. In these cases, horizontal wells become a very costly mistake.

Proven pioneered horizontal wells in Alberta and helps operators determine their best use. We are expert at simulating horizontal well interaction with reservoirs.

At Proven Reserves, we have expertise in all stages of waterflooding, from feasibility studies to implementation. We have worked on optimizing over 200 floods and started more than 50 of those. Ninety-five percent of the time we can add $20 million in NPV to floods we review.

Some of our many successful waterfloods are in the Zama field, Alberta.

By identifying and initiating over 50 waterfloods, the value of the project was increased to over $200 million.

Some of the water floods were conducted in a pinnacle reef with a single dual string well bore.

Our charge to the client was less than $10,000 per pool.

Because we have worked on so many different types of floods, we have learned how to optimize them to increase production and reserve value. We have seen strategies that work, and many that don’t.

We created AppIntel, a database of all the floods in Alberta, their PVT, maps, patterns, recovery factors and regulatory applications.
